Two veteran Nollywood actors are at loggerheads and only God knows this will end.
Top Yoruba actor, Yemi Solade who was on air live on Lagos State Television (LTV 8) recently blasted his colleague Hon Rotimi Makinde. Solade had said on air that Makinde is not an actor. This statement is now threatening to tear the Yoruba genre of Nollywood apart as other actors are now taking sides in the ensuing war of words.
While Makinde’s supporters have been trying to launder the image of the actor cum politician reminding Solade that Makinde made history as the first Nigerian actor to be elected into the Federal House of Representatives, they also reminded Solade that the Ile-Ife born Makinde has featured in 193 movies and produced 13 movies with his hard earned money thereby creating jobs for his fellow star actors and actresses. They added that aside acting and politics, Makinde is a chartered accountant and worked with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for over 20 years before embracing politics.
Meanwhile, Hon Rotimi Makinde on January 4, has given an epic response to Solade’s outburst. Makinde said: “I took the statement credited to a supposed friend Yemi Solade as a complimentary gift for my birthday,i guess he must have been quoted out of context or perhaps he meant to say, Rotimi Makinde never lived on acting.i said so because we have been on sets and at locations on several occasions in the past and indeed he Mr Yemi Solade surely knows me to be involved in many other good business like hospitality and Auto biz where he purchased his very first good car.In line with my principles, I am not prepared to join issues with my friends and colleagues and not even that man who is far older than I do and who grown up in my community, Ile Ife. …Case closed. Hon Rotimi Makinde.”
Makinde is an actor turned politician who represented Ife Central Federal Constituency in the last political dispensation.
2016 started on a beefing note in the Nigerian entertainment industry with Don Jazzy and Olamide, it’s now Yemi Solade and Rotimi Makinde.
